🎯 About Mifos

The Mifos Initiative is an open-source fintech nonprofit working to create digital financial infrastructure for the world’s 3 billion underserved. Our global community builds modular, extensible technology that powers microfinance, credit, savings, and digital banking solutions for inclusive economies.

Every year, Mifos welcomes students and contributors from across the globe through different mentorship and internship tracks—each aimed at scaling our impact while nurturing future open-source leaders.

🌐 Internship Tracks at Mifos

1️⃣ Google Summer of Code (GSoC)

🔗 Program Site

• Overview: A global program by Google offering stipends for students to work with open-source organizations.

• At Mifos: Interns build real-world fintech solutions under experienced mentorship across core banking, mobile apps, and cloud-native services.

• Selection: Students apply with project proposals; Mifos selects a few based on contribution history and alignment.

2️⃣ Code for GovTech (C4GT)

🔗 Program Site

• Overview: A national program initiated by the Indian government and Digital Public Goods Alliance to scale open-source development for public infrastructure.

• At Mifos: C4GT interns work on public-good-aligned fintech tools that serve real-world use cases for governance and citizen finance.

• Selection: Students apply via the C4GT platform and are matched to problem statements like financial inclusion, loan management, etc.

3️⃣ Mifos Summer of Code (MSOC)

🔗 Program Info

• Overview: Mifos' own summer internship program, created to support talented applicants who were not selected for GSoC or C4GT due to limited slots.

• At Mifos: MSOC interns follow the same standards and mentorship structure as GSoC/C4GT, working on impactful, high-priority tasks.

• Selection: Based on past contributions, willingness to learn, and a strong interest in inclusive fintech.

4️⃣ Mifos OpenMentor Program

• Overview: A flexible, unpaid mentorship-based internship designed for self-driven contributors outside formal cycles.

• At Mifos: Contributors identify a project of interest, find a mentor within the Mifos community, and request internship approval from a core team member.

• Internship Letter & Certificate: Interns under this program can receive an official internship letter and certificate, provided they demonstrate consistent, dedicated effort and complete the agreed timeline. Kindly ask your mentor to issue these documents upon successful completion.

• Duration: The internship period is flexible—ranging from 1 month, 2 months, to even 6 months or more—based on mutual agreement between the intern and mentor.

• Note: This is a mentor-driven initiative, so dedication, self-discipline, and clear communication are essential if you wish to receive formal certification.

🧭 Unified Internship Timeline (GSoC / C4GT / MSOC)

🟢 Note: If you're part of the OpenMentor Program, you can also join and contribute alongside GSoC, C4GT, and MSOC interns during the same timeline. While the program is flexible, aligning with the summer cohort helps you stay motivated and connected.

📋 Expectations for All Interns

• Weekly Communication: Share regular updates via Slack or your Jira ticket.

• Quality Code: Well-tested, readable, and follows project style guidelines.

• Documentation: Required for every module, service, or app.

• Open Collaboration: Ask for help, review others' PRs, participate in the community.

• Showcase: Record video demos, write blog posts, and present in community calls when possible.

• For OpenMentors: Commit fully to the project for the agreed duration. Certificates will only be provided for serious, impactful contributions.
