Internship FAQ
What level of detail is expected in my proposal?
Whatever you feel will best prove to us that you are capable of producing great software. What does this mean?
future developers will enjoy maintaining your work
your work meets requirements for the project
you are capable of completing the project iteratively
Should I include references?
Yes, this is a good idea. You're applying for a job. A good reference, for example, might be a professor you worked well with or a mentor from a past GSoC. Expect that we will follow up with at least one reference.
Must I build a Mifos Project before applying?
Ideally yes. While developing with Mifos during the internship, you will be required to build the software regularly. If you are able to follow our directions and build the projects that you are interested in working on, that will bolster our confidence in your ability to work effectively on Mifos Projects.
I've built the relevant Project, I've applied, I've done everything I can think of. What more could I do to improve my chances of being accepted?
start working on Mifos as a volunteer we are looking to gain new contributors as well as give you experience.
join our Slack. It's where things happen…. We’ve moved beyond just antiquated mailing lists that some projects use, our Slack is where discussions occur in real time.
ask to pair with a developer this will help you better understand how the community works together
ask what we need help with, and do it
grab a small issue and work on it. Can’t find something that fits you, ask in the right slack channel for the product we always have ideas we haven't got around to documenting
make sure you have read our site
if you have a project you want to propose ensure you have submitted it early so it hits our listings.
meet us in person, or ask to talk with a developer on the phone, join our webinars, or working groups. These will all help us to get to know you, and as importantly ensure you get to know us and decide it's where you want to intern.
