Currency and Rounding Rules
Currency and Rounding Rules
Mifos supports a single currency for an MFI and its offices. Mifos also supports setting an additional currency specifically for loan products and loan fees.
- Amount to be rounded to and the rounding rules are specific to each currency.
- Rounding rule for a currency is one of the following:
- Round up: The amounts are rounded to the nearest acceptable number. For example, if the lowest amount to be rounded to is INR 10, and the user enters 13.4454, it is displayed as 20. If the user enters 113, it is displayed as 120.
- Round down: The amounts are rounded down to the lowest amount. For example, if the lowest amount to be rounded to is INR 10, and the user enters any number between 10 and 20 (20 not included), it is stored and displayed as 10.
The system adjusts the last installment (increase or decrease) for loan accounts to handle the amount changed due to rounding. For example, if the actual repayment due = 181.95 and after rounding it becomes= 181, the system adds the 0.95 to the last installment due.
