Overview

Across all the regions Mifos is in active use, better overall accounting support is needed. This includes more in-depth integration with existing accounting packages, better cash management, greater flexibility around the financial transactions captured in Mifos, support for tracking expenses at the branch-level, and the need for a basic accounting module for MFIs lacking an existing accounting software. 

Background and Business Need

Existing users integrate Mifos with their respective accounting package in a number of ways.  This ranges from manual data entry of summarized transactions in the general ledger report, to semi-automated integration with an import of a .csv file generated by a script to more in-depth integration and control over data export like has been done with Tally.

All of these approaches still leave users with a major gap.

Miguel in his support of Kongalend in Namibia has run into several difficulties with the current Pastel Integration with Mifos.  He needs the flexibility to map a single transaction to multiple accounts and better control over the integration to enable Kongalend to facilitate savings and teller management in the future. 

In India, despite the high level of integration with Tally at the head office level, accounting at the branch level still must be addressed.

Project Details

Krishnan Mani and the team at Mostfit have built a sophisticated interface to allow greater flexibility between the data that flows between any MIS and accounting package. This interface is robust enough to serve as a basic double-entry accounting package for small MFIs. It is also flexible enough that it provides larger MFIs the needed control to more deeply integrate with their existing accounting software.
