KEEF Bugs and Enhancements
Background
One of our Mifos Consortium customers and a young, emerging MFI in Kenya, KEEF (Kenya Entrepreneurship Empowerment Foundation), would like to see these bugs and enhancements fixed in Mifos. They're currently using Mifos in production and piloting an integration between Mifos and the m-pesa mobile money platform. By integrating their back-office system, KEEF will be able to more rapidly expand its mobile money services, providing its clients with new, more affordable and secure products to meet their needs.
Customer Impact
KEEF's mission is to promote sustainable economic growth in rural and urban areas through provision of financial services and capacity building. They're helping to bring microfinance to more than 13,000 youth and women throughout Nairobi and its surrounding areas. Read this inspirational story about Salome, one of the many borrowers at KEEF whose life is being transformed through microfinance:
Meet Salomé
Salomé is originally from Tanzania but lives in the Kenyan village of Rongai, which is about 40 kilometers from Nairobi. She relocated to Kenya after marrying a Kenyan man and dropped out of high school when she was 16 years old to care for her first child. When Salomé arrived in Kenya it was difficult for her to find a job as she had not finished school. She missed her home country as the young family struggled financially.
Salomé was frustrated by asking the husband for money to care for the household needs. After being introduced to microfinance by a neighbor she knew that it was an opportunity to start her own business, reconnect with her home country and improve the lives of her children. She joined KEEF and with an initial loan of 6,000 Kenyan shillings (US$ 73), Salomé imported Tanzanian fabric to sell to women making "vitenges," a modernized traditional attire for African women. Additional loans have helped her expand the business and increase the stock, and now she is able to keep pay her children's school fees and take care of their needs.
Salomé's business continues to grow due to microcredit loans. With a loan of 50,000 Kenyan Shillings (US$ 614) she plans to realize her dream of opening a fabric shop that sells the products of her home country.
KEEF, its staff, and clients would gladly appreciate your help in fixing these issues.
